Nomineringerne til næste års Grammy-uddeling er landet, og der er flere end nogensinde. The Recording Academy har udvidet de fire hovedkategorier – Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year og Best New Artist – fra fem nominerede til otte.
Kendrick Lamar er årets topscorer med otte nomineringer, blandt andet Album of the Year for ‘Black Panther’-soundtracket samt fire nomineringer for nummeret ‘All the Stars’. Drake gør comeback fra sidste års nul nomineringer. Han har modtaget næst flest nomineringer – syv – for blandt andet ‘Scorpion’ og ørehængeren ‘God’s Plan’.
Sidste år var der kun en kvinde, som vandt en hovedpris ved Grammys, men i år er de kvindelige kunstnere bredt repræsenteret i de store kategorier. Seks kvinder – herunder Jorja Smith og Dua Lipa – konkurrerer i kategorien for Best New Artist, mens fem kvinder er nomineret for Album, Song og Record of the Year.
Cardi B modtog fem nomineringer, blandt andet Best Album for ‘Invasion of Privacy’ og Song of the Year for ‘I Like It’. Lady Gaga scorede også fem nomineringer, hovedsageligt for sit soundtrack til filmen ‘A Star Is Born’, hvor landeplagen ‘Shallow’ modtog fire nomineringer.
Childish Gambino landede også på fem nomineringer – fire for ‘This Is America’ og en enkelt for ‘Feels Like Summer’. Post Malone modtog sine første fire Grammy-nomineringer, blandt andet for Album of the Year for ‘Beerbongs & Bentleys’.
Nærmest helt uden for konkurrencen står store navne som Kanye West, Taylor Swift, The Carters og Ariana Grande. Både Swift og Grande måtte tage til takke med, at deres nye plader – henholdsvis ‘Reputation’ og ‘Sweetener’ – blev nomineret i underkategorien Best Pop Vocal Album.
Kanye West, der ellers har produceret fem albums i år, inklusiv soloalbummet ‘ye’ og Kid Cudi-kollaborationen ‘Kids See Ghosts’, modtog kun en enkelt nominering for Producer of the Year. The Carters scorede tre nomineringer, blandt andet for ‘Apeshit’-musikvideoen, men blev også udeladt fra de store kategorier.
