Dansk sensation ved årets Oscar-nomineringer, hvor Thomas Vinterberg fuldkommen uventet fik en af de fem pladser i kategorien Bedste Instruktør. Det havde ingen set komme!
I det hele taget var det en veritabel dansk triumf med hele fire danskprægede nomineringer:
Ud over den ventede til ‘Druk’ i kategorien Bedste Internationale Film blev den USA-boende danske instruktør Elvira Lind nomineret for sin kortfilm ‘The Letter Room’, der har hendes husbond Oscar Isaac i hovedrollen.
Og samtidig blev den danske klipper Mikkel E.G. Nielsen nomineret til Bedste Klipning for sit arbejde på ‘Sound of Metal’ med Riz Ahmed i hovedrollen.
I feltet generelt gik meget som ventet, men der var også overraskelser iblandt. Forhåndsfavoritter som ‘Nomadland’, ‘The Trial of Chicago 7’ og ‘Mank’ tog godt for sig af retterne, mens Chadwick Boseman blev posthumt nomineret for sin hovedrolle i ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’, som han også er favorit til at vinde.
Sacha Baron Cohen fik overraskende en nominering for manuskriptet til ‘Borat Subsequent Movie Film’, hvis birollegennembrud Maria Bakalova også hjemtog en nominering.
Film som ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’ og ‘Sound of Metal’ kan ligeledes være godt tilfredse med flere nomineringer, end mange havde regnet med.
Den absolutte topscorer blev ‘Mank’ med 10 nomineringer, efterfulgt af ‘The Father’, ‘Sound of Metal’, ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’, ‘Minari’, ‘The Trial of the Chicago 7′ og Nomadland’, der spøjst nok alle fik 6 seks nomineringer hver.
Og hvordan ser det så ud med diversiteten i år? Ikke værst, faktisk:
Seks skuespilnomineringer til sorte skuespiller blev det til, mens Akademiet også strøede kærlighed ud over skuespillere og filmmagere med asiatisk baggrund, der førhen har været groft underrepræsenterede ved de store amerikanske prisshows – ‘Parasite’s opsigtsvækkende triumf sidste år undtaget.
Således var der nomineringer til både ‘Minari’-instruktør Lee Isaac Chung og hans to skuespillere, Steve Yeun (Bedste mandlige hovedrolle) og Yuh-Jung Youn (Bedste kvindelige birolle), samt ‘Nomadland’-instruktør Chloé Zhao.
Årets coronaforsinkede Oscar-show løber af stablen 26. april.
